August 25, Leaving Marnay-sur-Marne for Rolampont
Victor and Francois arrived around 9 and made some final adjustments to the engine. Around 11 we started the engine, untied the boat and found that we were stuck in the mud. After we got the boat away from the side of the canal, the engine overheated and we had to tie back up again. Francois thought the problem was actually with the gauge instead of the engine so he switched parts on the gauges. There is something about the fact that something is 12 volt and something is 24 volt – who knows what? Well, I guess they do, but I don’t understand it. Anyway, we got under way again at noon and got almost 1km before the engine overheated again – there are bubbles in the cooling system it seems. So we tied up to the side of the canal again and Victor and Francois went back to work. It is a good thing we bought the stakes and sledgehammer! The plan was to be in Rolampont by noon so Victor and Francois could get home this afternoon.
The adventure continues.
We made it to the lock at Vesaignes-sur-Marne at 1:00 but no VNF – guess we will wait until 1:30. They arrived at 1:30, we went through the lock and were on our way to Rolampont with no further misadventures. Victor and Francois left around 3:30 and Dave went back to Marnay-sur-Marne with them to get the car. It was sad to leave there because it was so tranquil, but it is good to be on our way again.
