August 29, Villegusien to Courchamp
We left at 8 am, the weather was overcast and cold (59 degrees). I dressed in fleece ski pants, an undershirt, long sleeve t-shirt, sweatshirt and windbreaker. We went 19km and through 16 locks. The day was uneventful except for 2 locks that caught the bumpers – one we bent the railings on a lock gate and the other we made the rescue at the last minute. One part of the canal was so windy that we almost went into the lock sideways and had to reverse and go at it again. We had planned to stop 2 locks and 5 km ago but there was no place to tie up.
We wound up at two stakes on the shore in the middle of fields with two pretty little villages on either side of the canal but it is raining so hard that we will not venture out.
We watched another Christopher Columbus movie - this one with Gerard Depardieu – and made pizza with potatoes, cheese and sausage for dinner.
